I got this twin size foldable tatami mattress about 6 months ago. This and a twin size foldable rush grass tatami mat were the initial items I purchased to go on an elevated queen size metal platform bed frame after I got rid of my queen size memory foam mattress, box springs, and bed frame. I was trying to find a way to sleep cooler at night. I had been sleeping poorly in part because I kept waking up overheated and sweaty. My sleep experiment lasted several months. I added 3" of queen size coconut coir mats to provide firmness and breathability. I also added a 1" hemp mattress pad. Since this is a foam mattress it does warm up from body heat, but not nearly as much as an actual memory foam mattress. I no longer wake up at night hot and sweaty. That said, I am considering a more expensive wool or wool/cotton tatami mattress for comfort and temperature regulation.

I bought the 3 1/2" pad. I wanted to try sleeping on it, but it is only 2 1/2" thick and doesn't work for me.

The disappointment in this product is immense. The product is nowhere near 2.5” thick. It is not as thick as my thumb. There are obvious spaces throughout the pad and on the edges where there is a very thin layer of loose cotton material that is bunched in places leaving only the foam pad which feels to be about 1/4” thick. It does not lay flat when opened as the cotton material is so badly bunched where folds were. From the back it is also very clear that even the foam is either not a solid piece, or has significant cuts in it as there are large bulges throughout. I do not see this product being useful for any use that would require comfort or a flat surface.
