Not sure what to say yet
My other Vevor lathe gave up. It had 10 years of abuse and amateurish learning and at the last 1 inch it started smoking. It finished its cut and as soon as it did it went pop and died.
This mini lathe made my other look like a micro. Mounted this to its bench and started up. The new plastic gear are so whisper quiet. The first thing I noticed was the machine really doesn't like heavy cuts. There is a very fine line between speed and power. Just drilling a little bit too fast and it bogs down to a sputter.
But this lathe uses the same 550 motor as my other. So it's really underpowered for heavier tasks. I'm thinking if this lathe holds up a while, I might think about the 750 motor and metal gear upgrade.
Ironically, I'm using this lathe to make parts for my ShopSmith. And when setting up everything, there were very little fine tweaks needed right out of the box.

VEVOR Mini Metal Lathe, 8"x14" (10 months ownership - )
I promptly received a UPS tracking, delivered within about 48h. I give 3 stars because it currently still sits in multiple bins of disassembled, cleaned and pending completion of the thorough CLEANING AND DEBURRING that IS REQUIRED on almost all parts without exception. Paint, metal shavings, and even casting sand! are hiding between almost all of the parts, and a complete and careful teardown of everything is essential.! Gears, Headstock, Covers, Cross-Slide, Lead Screw, Tail Stock, handles, even the chuck...
The gear cover did not bolt to the headstock properly, the holes were drilled poorly and threads were incomplete and misaligned.
The timing belt/drive belt is improperly tensioned and about to tear itself and the gears are full of gunk and need deburring and realigned.
The magnets for the RPM display fell off (seems minor, but could cause a major wreck!) and the Sensor bracket is flimsy and falls in the way of the spindle.
There is no provision to protect the electronics from metal shavings and other debris or liquids due to both their placement and the gaps all around the enclosures. I had to clean, vacuum, reroute wires and install grommets to prevent sharp metal from cutting the wires + installing gaskets.
The tail stock is a mismatched mix of cast iron and cast aluminium, specifically the Morse Taper #2 iron/steel sleeve into an aluminium bore gunked with paint and shavings. The base and plates are pending modifications to make them match the bed properly and sit square/flat.
The cross slide got a teardown, cleaning, deburring and is pending modifications to fit the bed properly.
The bed needs cleaning deburring and filing/machining the feet flat to remove the twist induced when bolting it.
The prismatic ways do not match the machined prismatic grooves of either the headstock, cross-slide or tailstock.
It is a project that requires skills, patience and important knowledge base and the ongoing curiosity to pursue research into techniques in order to fix the inherent defects.
One must also have or obtain a selection of precision measuring instruments (and skillset), power tools and ideally access to a proper lathe or milling machine. I don't own or have access to either another quality lathe or a milling machine.
Could I have used it out of box? Maybe, but not without breaking the machine prematurely due to burrs and metal debris/casting sand stuck between parts. I tried after an initial thorough cleaning (without tearing everything apart) and it ran, but with concerning grinding noises and the sound of something bouncing in the gears (the magnets...)

None
Not really 31 inches between centers unless you remove the chuck and tailstock. Closer to 26 inches.

It's okay
Okay so it's been a year so I'll write a review. Realistically, given lots of research this is not the best C3 out there. I understand 'you get what you pay for' and this is cheap, but the problem I have with this machine is the blatant corner cutting everywhere you look. The motor they used is too small for the motor area, so what do they do? wedge it in on a nasty angle, causing the belt to want to slip off the gear. Belt slipping off the gear? Tap the outside of the gear and add a cheap metal disc on with the cheapest screws imaginable so it eventually pops off. The plate at the bottom of the tailstock is too thin because we ordered the wrong thickness of plate? Don't grind it properly so it barely contacts the ways, and doesn't align vertically with the centre of the spindle, and pops out of alignment all the time.
It seems like their attitude is "F it" on every decision. Can I fix it? Yes. Has it costed me more than if I bought a better unit so far, DEFINITELY. Will it cost me even more to actually make it a good unit? absolutely. Basically when you buy this lathe, you also buy a course on fixing a lathe that's up to you to pay for. Likely you'll also wind up buying a mill just to be able to machine the parts that need fixing.
Honestly it's a real bummer. It's also bananas that Vevor doesn't offer things like a steady rest, follow rest, face plate, etc. as accessories, as these aren't optional.

Vevor Lathe NO POWER
I received this Vevor lathe a few days ago.
Although it was packaged very well, I have one major issue. And that is the fact that it will not power on. I have no power on the actual circuit board. You can see by the photos that I’ve attached that there’s no power going to either lead going to the switch. I have power coming into the circuit board, but nothing passed the contact point.
Very dissatisfied at this point. This is the second Vevor lathe that I have purchased from you guys and was very pleased with the first one.
Please advise as soon as possible. Thank you.

Vevor lathe regret
Crate was broken, loose nuts in the crate that I can't figure out where they go. Very noisy motor. It's cheaply made, poor quality materials, likely to last a short time.

Mr
The motor sparked and the lathe is inoperative after q hour of use.
I wasted my money on this purchase. Vevor had poor customer service. Don't buy equipment from them

Mr
Avoid.
The good:
* It runs.
* It's cheap.
The bad:
* The tools are too large for the tool post, you'll need to grind your own or get an aftermarket tool post.
* The motor screams like it's going to fail very very soon
* The tail stock quill was literally painted into the tailstock assembly, I had to break the paint to remove it and grind it clean
* It's nowhere near straight. There aren't enough adjustment screws to get it straight.
* You don't need a spring pass to get a clean cut, you need 20 passes because the tool deflection is so bad even with 0.025mm passes
* Backlash on the control wheels is ridiculous. 2 full turns of the cross slide wheel to take up the slack
* I can't apply enough pressure to get a knurling tool to cut BRASS because the cross slide flexes too much

Complete Lemon
I purchased this lathe two years ago.
Over these last two years, I have discovered that:
-The ways are not nicely ground. The surface is relatively rough and a lip was left over the entire bed. A file will easily cut them, I don't think that they're very hard.
-The headstock casting was bad. The bore for the bearings didn't clean up and the bearings are not properly supported.
-The retaining system for the saddle is a poor design. That's more set by the original design, but the thickness of the ways to-underside where the retaining strips are isn't consistent across the length of the bed.
-The gibs on the the compound came bent.
-The saddle isn't flat. It's admitted close to flat, but it has a slight rock in it.
-The motor isn't brushless on the one I got. As far as I have been able to use it, which is almost none, it has worked, but it was a lie to me.
-The lead screw has no shear pin. Mine is now slightly bent. My fault, but still a design failure.
The only good part that actually worked properly out of the box was the cross slide. It was adjusted properly and is smooth.
The only other good part is the dials on the compound and cross slide. They function as you would want.
In general, it's clear to me that the lathe I got was built out of parts that didn't meet spec. It's been a total lemon.
